The mountain ranges to the west make Hawkes Bay one of the sunniest and driest regions in New Zealand, perfectly suited to grape-growing and winemaking.

Napier is the main centre, along with close neighbour Hastings. The region offers jobs in the wine industry which can lead to lifetime careers.
