Marlborough Girls’ College

Marlborough Girls' College is a state secondary single sex school located close to Blenheim's CBD. The College has a proud tradition of academic excellence and outstanding achievement in culture and sport.

We are very proud of our young women’s NCEA results. We encourage our young women to aim to achieve to their personal best.  Our staff work hard to support our young women to achieve their goals.  As a result, MGC students have achieved above national averages at all levels.  A  number of our international students

The curriculum is designed to cater for the needs of all learners in preparation for tertiary study. Academic tracking, mentoring and tutoring programmes ensure that every student is supported to achieve her goals, gain qualifications and develop the confidence and skills to succeed as a global citizen. A philosophy of anytime, anywhere learning, and a sophisticated IT infrastructure underpins all teaching programmes. All students are encouraged to bring their own internet capable devices.

Education outside the classroom is an important part of the curriculum. Optional outdoor education programmes include kayaking, mountain biking, rock climbing, tramping and snow activities. Trips include Kaikoura, Marlborough Sounds, Nelson Lakes and Abel Tasman National Park.

A wide range of co-curricular activities (drama, leadership, music, service and sports) provide for individual needs. International students are encouraged to fully participate.

The International staff are in regular communication with parents and agents. Parents have access to their daughter's records at any time through the College's electronic portal.

ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) – this is taken as a specialist subject, taught by trained teachers with ESL qualifications.   Class sizes are small 6 – 15 students

Student Support – all our international students are supported by trained and qualified Guidance Counsellors, Careers Advisors and the Principal.   They also have the support of our International Dean, International Administrator, Homestay Co-ordinator and Homestay Parents.   The International Prefect heads a committee of kiwi and international students who support international students in their interests and aspirations. Along with the International staff, they run an extra- curricular activities including trips as far afield as Wellington and Hanmer Springs, A Marae Camp plus many other activities.

The International Staff, International Prefect and student buddies provide an orientation programme and support international students to participate fully in the life of the College.

Accommodation – we can arrange compatible, caring homestays,  that are fully compliant with the Code of Practice for Pastoral Care of International Students.   Please look on our website for costs.

Local Community has a strong focus on cultural activities (theatre, music include Youth Orchestra, Brass Band).   The region is a very safe area with low rates of crime.   Blenheim is a beautiful town in the midst of wide open spaces with all facilities

Access to the outdoors – Marlborough Sounds (Kayaking, Boating, Sailing, Fishing), Richmond Ranges and Lake Rotoiti (mountain biking, tramping, skiing (both snow and water)

Excellent medical care is provided with a large well serviced hospital 5 minutes’ drive from the school

Short-term groups – these can be arranged depending on the time of the year.
